Chicago Lakeside Development at Greening the Heartland/BUILDING Chicago Conference

This Wednesday, September 11th, representatives of the Chicago Lakeside Development, McCaffery Interests and Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP will be presenting at the Greening the Heartland/BUILDING Chicago Conference.

The Greening the Heartland/BUILDING Chicago conference is a joint initative by the US Green Building Council and Green Building + Design magazine. Backed by the Chicago Chamber of Commerce, the Builders Association chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects, BUILDING Chicago will provide a wide variety of educational and networking opportunities built upon the strong track record of high-quality, AIA-accredited education for architects through BD+C University. Greening the Heartland will explore interdepenfent elements of sustainability.

Chicago Lakeside Development LLC is redeveloping the former U.S. Steel South Works plant on Chicago's south lakefront into an innovative 600-acre mixed-use community, under the USGBC's LEED-ND program. Lakeside's vision is to create a living laboratory to develop next-generation infrastructures for water, energy, waste, transit, and technology. Lakeside will test smart city technologies and clean technology and spur economic development through green jobs. The site has zoning approval for 13,575 dwelling units, 20 million square feet of commercial space, new schools, a community center, parks, trails, and a marina. Lakeside will be the catalyst to revitalize southeast Chicago through job creation and innovative sustainable best practices.
