Illinois Governor Pat Quinn visited Chicago Lakeside Development on 7/12/13 to see the progress on the site, and to speak about the promise of the innovative Mud-to-Parks program, an initiative spearheaded by Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Since commencement in 2004, 232,000 tons of Illinois River mud have been shipped and spread over 25 of our 600 acres. According to the official press release, the last of 79 barges filled with sediment traveled 163 miles to Chicago Lakeisde and used as the soil for our upcoming parks and public spaces.
